Car Insurance Explained

What is covered by auto insurance?

Generally, Car insurance protects you against litigation as the result of an auto accident. If written correctly, the policy will cover the damage that you may cause to other  people and their property, Your policy should also protect you against people who are Under-Insured or completely Un-Insured at the time of an accident, up to the policy limits that you select.

There are also coverages like collision, comprehensive, rental car, towing and many more that can cover you in many ways so that when you have a claim its as painless to your wallet and schedule as possible.

What types of cars can you insure?

We can insure most vehicles including but not limited to:
An expensive luxury or sports car to a transportation special (we used to call them old beaters) and everything in between. Including collector cars!

In Illinois, what is the minimum coverage for auto insurance?

In Illinois, the required state minimum for Auto liability insurance is $25,000 per person/$50,000 per accident for bodily injuries, and $20,000 per occurrence for property damage.

Coverage for bodily injuries caused by an Un-Insured or Under-Insured motorist for the minimum limit of $25,000/$50,000 are also required by the state. This coverage protects the people in your car if you are injured by an Un-Insured or Under-Insured driver.

AAIA recommends that you purchase coverage higher than State Minimum. We will find you the best value and get you insured appropriately, for the lowest possible cost.

How much does auto insurance cost?

At AAIA our goal is to provide you the best coverage at a price you can afford.

All insurance companies use your personal information to create a quote.

Driving history, credit history, claim history and zip code are some of the factors that are used and all companies use them differently.

Since no 2 people are exactly the same the cost for insurance is usually not the same either.

What optional auto insurance coverages are available?

Some examples of additional or optional coverages not required by law are:

Medical payments - Covers people injured in your car.
Collision - Covers your car if you're at fault or if you are hit by an uninsured person. usually with a deductible
Comprehensive- Covers your car if it's hit by a falling object like a tree. Also covers theft, vandalism and broken windshields.
Towing - Covers you if you need a tow. In most cases it's better than a motor club.
Car Rental - Covers all or some of the cost to rent a car while your car is being repaired after an insurance claim.

There are many others and each company has their own versions.

How do I get the cheapest auto insurance?

The easiest way to get cheap car insurance is:

How soon do I have to add my new car to my Illinois auto insurance policy?

There is no law in Illinois that requires a time frame for this.

Each company is different. Some companies give you a few days and others up to 30 days.

If you are insured through AAIA just call us and we can give the right answer.

When does my child need to be added to my Illinois auto insurance policy?

When anyone (not only your child) who lives at your address has a drivers license, they are required to be listed on your policy. Not adding them is considered insurance fraud and can lead to a claim being denied.

To get car insurance in Illinois, what documents do I need to submit?

1) A valid drivers license
2) The registration or at least the VIN for your car.
3) Proof that you were a listed driver on an auto policy. This could be your own prior policy, a parents policy or even an employer policy.

If you were not listed as a driver on a policy we can still insure you, but not being able to prove that you had prior insurance will make the price higher.

What is the average cost of car insurance in Illinois?

This answer depends on many factors.

How many drivers? How many cars? The ages of the drivers? What kind of cars?

And so much more. Give us a call and we will find you the best rate we can!

What makes car insurance in Illinois so expensive for new drivers?

The lack of driving experience is a huge factor in the rate of a new driver.

Whether it's a teen or a new adult driver, unfortunately statistics show they are higher risk of having an accident during their first year of driving.

When discussing Illinois car insurance, what does deductible mean?

A deductible is what YOU pay before your Insurance company coverage pays.

Let's say you have Collision coverage on your policy with a deductible of $500.

You have an at fault accident and the repair bill to fix your car is going to be $3000.00.

You will pay the first $500 of repairs. Then your company will pay for the remaining repair bill.
